Michael Uries stars as Alex, a struggling, gay actor in his imagined encounter with Barbra Streisand. The show is set primarily in the diva’s Malibu basement, where Streisand has created a reproduction of a vintage mall, where she keeps her collection of decorative Americana, including a doll shop and clothing boutique stocked with her old costumes. Alex is charged with minding the stores, but is surprised to meet the legend, who makes an appearance to nosh on a frozen yogurt or haggle over the “prices” of items on display. Alex is drawn to her magnetic mix of power, insecurity, entitlement and perpetual dissatisfaction, only to discover that like fame itself, friendships are fleeting.
